An easy Roasted Pecans Recipefor making a batch of irresistible nutty goodness that is perfect for appetizers, snacks or sharing as an edible gift.

The bowl of nuts still in their bumpy shells, accompanied by a variety of nut extraction tools, was always there, right beside the pair of black pleather recliners. Walnuts, filberts (aka hazelnuts), brazil nuts, almonds, and always pecans. Always pecans. My grandparents were nuts about nuts. It’s a good thing. Every holiday, every family gathering, every time there were more than the two of them in the house was reason enough to roast pecans. The house would fill with a glorious aroma of buttered nuts, sprinkled with a little bit of salt. It was all we could do to wait until they cooled just enough to grab a handful to gobble up. What a treat!

If you’ve never enjoyed Roasted Pecans, you are missing out, and should get to making a batch right away. That’s an order! Of course, I jest. But you should put it on your list of food to try. Roasting pecans, or any other nuts for that matter, is so easy and not only makes for a great addition to a party menu, but a terrific edible gift to share all year round. Package a few cups of roasted nuts in a clear cellophane bag, tied up with string and that new neighbor will be your new best friend. Send a bag to school with your kids and put a smile on their teacher’s face. Try it and see for yourself.

Three simple ingredients are all that is needed to roast a batch of nutty goodness: butter, nuts, and salt. That’s it, plus about 20 minutes of total cook time. It doesn’t get much easier than that. So what are you waiting for? Let’s get to roasting!

I tried this and 350° is way too high. The pecans were burning up in less than 8 minutes. I’ll try again sometime with the temperature at 275° – 300°.

This is our family recipe from at least 4 generations with the exception that we roast in a slow oven (275 degrees) for about 4-6 hours or until desired tenderness. My mother-in-law’s family used to own a pecan grove back in the late 1890s and this was the same ingredients in our family recipe. A tip from my mother-in-law, start a Christmas Club in order to purchase these pricey pecans….we have to have enough to gift out to our doctor, minister, neighbors, etc. and have plenty on hand for holiday visitors.

275 is the only way to go! Any higher will burn them. Usually takes between 35 and 45 minutes.
