MANILA, Philippines — Chery Tiggo spikers Eya Laure and Ara Galang believe that their stronger bond has been the key to their emergence as the hottest team with four straight wins in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
A two-week break didn’t stop Chery Tiggo from solidifying its semifinal bid as the Crossovers took down the Cignal HD Spikers in a tight straight-set encounter, 26-24, 25-20, 26-24, on Thursday evening at Philsports Arena.

“Helping each other is a big factor [to our winning run]. When someone feels like giving up, someone will encourage you to keep going,” said Laure, who led the charge with 16 points and 13 excellent receptions.

“Our teammates and coaches] remind us what to do, the things that we have to resolve and avoid during the game. When you commit a mistake, your teammates will tap you to encourage you that it’s okay.”
Galang, who contributed 11 points, said their connection is a result of their dedication in practice and bonding off the court as Chery Tiggo forced a triple tie at 6-2 with Petro Gazz and Creamline, who were part of their four-game winning streak.

“I’m happy to contribute because my goal is to translate the things that we can do in practice to the game. I’m happy that we’re able to execute our game plan and we’re reaping the result of our hard work,” said Galang in Filipino.
Despite the winning surge of Chery Tiggo, Laure and Galang believe the best is yet to come for their team with three games remaining to seal their entry to the semifinal round.

“We’re a work in progress every day. We have different setters and our coaches are teaching us different techniques for every opponent. Our jelling inside and outside the court is still a work in progress,” Laure said in Filipino.
“We can’t be complacent. We have to keep on working hard even though we’ve been effective in the past games,” added Galang. “We’ll continue to take it one game at a time and trust our coaches. We will reach our goal if we continue to follow and apply the things our coaches teach us.”
Chery Tiggo battles another contender team, PLDT (7-1) on Tuesday at Philsports Arena next week.
Laure promises to work hard as they face the Savi Davison-led team.

“The results that we’ve been getting came from our hard work in training. So we have to keep working and addressing our lapses so when we play the game it will be easier,” she said.
